Yes, you saw that right, I am not the best trainer. And I will never be the best, this is not my goal or purpose of life. I am good enough to do the job, that’s it. Good enough.
I know that there is always something new to learn, a new research to read (for example how licking lemon just before set will improve your number of reps, yes there is such a research) or a new variation of a movement to ignite your tibialis muscles or the outer part of the lower biceps. The area of fitness and weights training is vast as an ocean and new fish could be observed almost every new day.
So, no, I am not the best. I am good enough.
And to tell you the truth, if somebody is looking for ”The Best” for me that means just one thing. That this somebody would like to transfer the responsibility to me. I know you have such friends, we all have at least one of those. The person that would hire the best, buy the most expensive and go to an exclusive location. All of that is transfer of responsibility or effort.
Even if I am the best trainer, the only thing I can do is teach, show, correct, talk, repeat. I cannot lift the weights for him and create his muscles with my efforts. I cannot eat 2.2g of protein per kg bodyweight daily for him and him to grow tissues. I cannot sleep 7 to 9 hours a day instead of him. All I can do is do all the talking, but he is the one to do all the walking.
And the muscle that he is trying to build, honestly, does not care a bit if the person will be wearing breathable, moisture removing, perfectly fitting, compression T-shirt that costs 38 Euro on sale or just a regular, cheap tank-top from Lidl. The same muscle could not care less if the dumbbell is rubber-padded in an exclusive downtown gym or is just a peace of metal in a garage-type gym in the neighbourhood.
I, same as the muscle, could not care less.
Because my job, as a trainer, is to first ask you about your gym of choice, to check their equipment and after the initial consultation to build your programme and routine. Your programme for your gym of choice with the machines and weights available. Because I am good enough to build your agenda around you, not around me. And before you ask, no, you should not share you workouts with your friends because it is made for you and your length of femur bones, for example.
I am good enough to know how to make muscles to grow, body fat to disappear and clients to be happy, content and to enjoy the process. I am that good. Not the best. Never will be. Will always grow and educate myself.
